Why I will ALWAYS be very happy celebrating Queer love.
"Same Sex Weddings.......or, as I like to call them......weddings!"
I can't remember the first time I saw that quote, but it resonated with me so strongly.
Thankfully in 2026 the term same sex weddings is slowly but surely being erased from our collective vocabularies. It’s outdated and far too simplistic to cover the rich, diverse, colourful and joy filled celebrations that are Queer* Weddings!
Being a gay woman and member of the Queer community, I was an active supporter of the push for Marriage Equality. Not just for myself and my partner but also because I strongly believe that every single person
has the right to be get married and celebrate their love in front of family and friends.
So, to answer the question, do I support and am I happy to officiate same sex weddings....HELL YES!
One of the things that excites me the most about Queer Weddings is that there is no rule book.
As a community and individual couples and indeed as a Celebrant, we can create new traditions and customs.
For example, you can wear WHATEVER you want to! You can also enter your ceremony HOWEVER you want to.
I encourage you to take all of the weddings traditions that exist, throw them in the air and only incorporate the ones that resonate with YOU.
So, if you are looking for a celebrant who is not only ok with Queer Weddings but is very enthusiastic about celebrating Queer love, then get in touch and let’s start planning your ideal ceremony.
*Queer - I completely understand that some members of the LGBTIQA+ community do not relate nor like the word Queer and don’t use to describe themselves and their love. I ALWAYS ask you how you describe yourself, your relationship and your love. IF we need to define it and use a word, I will ask you which one you prefer. Here, though, I’m using Queer to include everyone who happily sits under the LGBTIQA umbrella.
